Some readers of NLM may have already seen the recent announcement by the Libreria Editrice Vaticana: the Latin editio typica altera of the Liturgia Horarum, out of print for some time, is being reprinted. The first volume is expected by June. Those who are interested in acquiring a copy can e-mail the Sales Department (commerciale.lev@spc.va) for pre-orders and more information...
and a link to Libreria Editrice Vaticana:
The first volumes of Liturgia Horarum, which are currently being edited, will be available in print starting this June. Two different versions will be published: classic and with gilded edges. The cover price is not yet available, but the four volumes can already be pre-ordered by emailing our sales office at commerciale.lev@spc.va
And from a comment on same NLM piece:
ReplyDelete"As the United States Bishop's Conference last newsletter on the subject mentioned, the final vote on the new English-language translation ("The Liturgy of the Hours, Second Edition") is scheduled to take place in November 2018, with a target publishing date of 2020 or early 2021"
Do you have a link to that newsletter? I couldn't find it.

Here's a pretty recent newsletter (Nov. 2017) available in PDF from the usccb.org:

Mike, thanks for that first link from usccb.org. I think I'll put that in a post since many readers are curious about this, and it's the most thorough pice of information we have so far.
DeleteWouldn't it be cool if the 2nd edition came out this year?
DeleteMichael, you or I have a better chance of winning a half billion USD Lottery than the 2eLOTH coming out this year...
DeleteWe'll be lucky to have it by the end of 2021, and IMO, there's a chance it could be as late as 2027 or even 2030.
Time will tell.
DeleteI seem to recall some rumor way back about the LOTH 2.0 restoring (completely, or only as an approved option? - I don't know) the traditional English rendering of the doxology -- "Glory be" &c rather than the "Glory to." Do we know anything about this?
ReplyDeleteTom, at the first bishop's meeting discussing the draft of the revision, one bishop, I believe Cardinal O"Malley, got up and made the case for returning to the traditional Glory Be. But I don't know whether it was ever discussed and/or voted on.
DeleteTom, you might find this post by Daria interesting:

Thanks, Mike and Daria. (Btw, the current doxology in the LOTH is not from ICEL but from ICET [International Consultation on English Texts] and was done in 1971.)
DeleteUnrelated to the doxology but related to the original post, LEV just informed me via email yesterday that their production of the LH reprint has been delayed, and that only Vol 1 Advent/Christmas will by ready, likely after June. They still have no sense of its sticker price.
